  1. From the US Census Bureau IDB Summary Demographic Data web site, select the data page for each of your countries. You will be using data from the table on "Midyear Population, by Age and Sex: 2000 and 2025. (It will make your work easier to copy these data into Excel.)
  2. For each of your countries, calculate the sex ratio, median age of population, % total population below 15, % total population 65 or over, and the dependency ratio for each of the indicated years.
  3. Discuss the differences between your two countries in terms of:
      1. Any changes in sex ratio and the reasons for these. (You may additionally want to look at this issue specifically for the population 65 and over.)
      2. Directions of change in dependency ratios.
      3. Changes in the (young vs. old) components of the dependency ratios.
  4. Discuss what you see as the policy challenges for your respective countries arising from the projected changes described above.

Your reading for October 30 may help you in thinking through some of these issues. You will remember that that reading includes:
Weeks, Ch 8 Age and Sex, 303-313 Measuring the Dynamics of the Age Transition.
